Throughout this course, I have learned how different dimensions of technology enhanced the learning environment. As a future educator, I need to equip myself with the following understanding or knowledge:
a)Representation of concepts using technologies
I need to have a deep understanding on the application of particular technologies to construct my subject matter. As example, I need to understand which specific technologies(mindmapping tools/ infographic tools/ video presentation tools) are best suited for addressing my subject matter.
b)Redress problems that students face
I need to understand my learner's problem and preference learning styles. All these are important for me to develop creative and amazing teaching aids. In order to redress their problem, I need to understand and be aware the process learners are going through. Besides, it is important to encourage flipped and blended T&L and diversify ways in teaching.
c) Knowing what's best
It is my responsibility not just to give what learners want, but to make them want what I know they need.
Identifying appropriate uses of graphic is an increasingly important requirement of teachers and instructors in a digital age, and a quite complex challenge. Using graphic requires that the instructor step outside of the traditional lecture method and facilitate learning by encouraging learners to learn through the media. Basically, graphic is the combination of visual (pictures, symbols, logos, alphabets, numbers, sentences, drawing, images, graph, chart) incorporate with text. Appropriate use of graphic will engage learners and help them to understand concepts. In designing graphic, I have to concentrate on the objectives of teaching and also student's preference learning styles. Once the choice of media has been made, I have to focus just on the design of graphics, as important as considering the pedagogical context. It is crucial for every educator to put emphasis on the element of visual. The five important element are white space, line, surface, 2D and 3D. As example, the surface is important to increase the attractiveness. So, colour takes an important role to show the contrast of important ideas/concepts. A simple PowerPoint presentation introducing colour wheels and colour mixing. The classic color wheel shows hues arranged in a circle, connected by lines or shapes. The colors include primary colors (red, yellow, and blue), secondary colors (orange, green, and violet), and tertiary colors (yellow green, blue green, blue violet, red violet, red orange, and yellow orange).
So, how do we really choose colours that really work? Generally I'll begin with one or two base colours around with other colors. I'll also identify the harmonious colour combinations based on geometric relationships on the colour wheel. For this reason, I'll rotate the shapes around the central point of the colour wheel to create limitless colour combinations. I have also noticed that never ever combine a black colour background with red colour text (vice versa). This will definitely annoyed your audience even though it might looks as a pretty colour combinations.
This week, we were doing the presentation of our Augmented Reality teaching materials. Designing teaching material isn't easy when it comes to the emphasis on pedagogy and educational outcomes. Before this, I thought designing AR material is as easy as coming up with a video and let my target audience scan and watch the video. Actually it could be something meaningful and educational when we include introduction, objective, learning outcomes and instruction on how to use it. This is crucial because myself, as an educator, may not always be available when students are studying or need help. As a future educator, I am hoping to distribute teaching material in an appropriate manner, which mean accommodate different learning styles and facilitate students' learning. So, I was thinking about what are the potential of using AR materials in the teaching and learning process?
Firstly, AR materials is able to builds self-knowledge, self-confidence and encourages me to take responsibility for my own learning. Besides, it has also provide option for students to select learning materials that meets their level of knowledge and interest. This also allows students to learn and where it is more convenient and improve their interest and motivation in learning. On the other hand, AR materials would be disadvantanges when you have slow internet connections or older devices may make accessing course materials frustrating.
Coggle Tutorial- Introduction
My first created Coggle mindmap- My Personal Learning Environment
Draf of my group's AR Material (Coggle)
We were discussing on the approaches to present our Augmented Reality Materials. For instance, title, objective of materials, synopsis, title division, AR concept, target audience and number of videos. Basically, my groups will be doing on the topic "Phobias that might exist in you" Our main objective is to give information about the unconventional but real fear of things that might exist in person, also increase awareness of certain anxiety disorder, and introducing new words in an engaging way (video form). We have set everyone as our target audience because these kind of new vocabulary are not commonly known. I think the importance and tips in using AR is that you have to create an interesting topic in order to drag people's attention. So, we were presenting our draft in the form of mindmap, by using online software-coggle. It wasn't my first time using coogle, it is convenience for users to present idea or information. So, I was thinking on how can Coggle benefit the education industry? Firstly, mindmap(Coggle) empowers both students and teachers with everything they need to make a lasting impression and improve in memorization of facts. Second, teachers can create classes more engaging to impress and engage their learners. For me, I have been looking beyond the traditional presentation software to express my world-changing ideas to peers. So, Coggle is that one tool which can kept the education easier for everyone.
Augmented Reality Demo
Important terms: Augmented reality, Aurasma Studio
What's the potential of AR?
Exploring Aurasma Studio was totally something brand new to me. I was surprised with how it worked to create the augmented reality. At first, I was quite worried that it will be difficult to produce but somehow it didn’t as difficult as what I had thought. Basically, the virtual mirror interface allowing me, as a student, to explore new information in a more engaging way. In my opinion, the potential of augmented reality is countless, for example: helps to generate student’s idea, learning in a real-life scenario, and provide a large range of learning opportunities. Indeed, AR is a good medium to attract student’s attention and effectively deliver the content to the audience. Well, I wish that I could adapting AR in create and design teaching materials for English language learning. I should be picking out a specific subtopic before I started doing it. For example, I am going to focus on 10 common mispronunciation words by Malaysian students. Through AR, my audience can easily learn the correct pronunciation by playing the virtual video repeatedly. This will help to boost my student’s motivation and develop their skills in pronunciation. However, I think that AR also have its weakness. To access, learners require a very stable and strong internet connection. This could also be something disturbing when the learners spending too much of time on loading it.
This week lecture, I have the chance to know more about the online software for teaching and learning purpose. Example given during lecture are Prezi, Knovio, Presentme, Piktochart, Bitetable, Moovly, Powtoon, Facebook , Instagram, Telegram and Whatsapp.
TWO Web 2.0 Interactive tools that I will most likely use in the future to enhance classroom interaction are:
Socrative is a quick-based learning system that helps teachers spark conversation and learning through polls or quizzes. In the future, I can use Socrative to enhance students’ interaction.
a) Socrative can be used to create quizzes for students. After students answering the quizzes, students can get immediate feedback about whether their answers were correct or incorrect.
b) Besides, educators can use Socrative to ask questions for instant student feedback. I can use Socrative to ask simple questions such as describe what you have learned today and how well you understood today’s lesson. Students can give answer such as ‘I have learned what is 21stcentury skills.’ This will give a chance for students to share what they learned and what they thought about. Personally, I like Socrative because it encouraging every student to join, rather than the select few who are picked by teacher to speak. This will enhance classroom interaction because students express themselves by giving feedback and their opinion.
2) Poll Everywhere
Poll Everywhere is a text message polling and audience response system. It is very simple to use if compare to other polling tools. We can use Poll Everywhere to create quizzes, attendance, teacher feedback, group evaluations and class discussions.
a) Poll Everywhere allow students to response by giving a vote to the poll. It helps to enhance classroom interaction because every student is giving their answers through voting.
b) Poll Everywhere generating discussion. It allows students to do more than simply give a single response. It is helpful to generate students to give their opinion and thoughts.Students can give feedback and share their learning experience through Poll Everywhere. So, interaction takes place when students share their opinion and thoughts.
As we know, media can be a component of active learning strategies such as group discussions, research or presentation among peers. Media could be video, film clip, slides show, mindmap or more. As a student, we are allowing to create our own media. For example, doing on a video projects can be a powerful and engaging learning experience. To conclude, media engages students, attract student's retention of knowledge, motivate interest, and illustrates the relevance of many concepts, However, I just know the media is super important, powerful and useful in learning, But how, as a teacher, I am going to evaluate and access media before I integrate into my teaching materials? First, the process of evaluation media is important. As a teacher, I have to recognize and plan for diversity in students' backgrounds, learning styles, and their abilities in adapting new information. After that, I will provide opportunities to integrate knowledge, skills, attitudes related to my teaching topic. Besides, I would like my students to make decision about their own learning and I will also encourage them with collaborative learning activities. I will provide opportunities for them to do mindmap, video or presentation by using the software application with their peers. After they have done their work, instant feedback from peers will be important to let them know on what to improve.
For me, the criteria(s) of a usefulness media are simple, clear, understandable, suitable for all learners, encourage collaboration and provide instant feedback.
70 well-designed resume examples
All the examples given are creative, beautiful, and eye-catching. For my own e-resume, I prefer something simple, neat and professional written. I had used the ADDIE model as a guideline for me. This model/framework can be divided into five different phases:
1)Analysis (Who are my audience?)
2)Design (How will the content be organised?)
(What to include? e.g: Personal information, academic background, skills, achievement)
3)Development (How I create and assemble content in the design phase)
4)Implementation (Method of delivery information)
5)Evaluation (formative and summative)
I have spent almost three to four hours to complete my resume. I took quite a long time to arrange all my information and experience before I assemble it to my design. In my point of view, there are numerable of advantages of using an electronic resume. It's printable and I can have a few of hard copies on hand when I go out for interview. I can also instantly update my resume with my most recent achievements. Besides, it is instantly accessible and it allows me to download in different specific format (e.g: PDF). So, the fact is e-resume has everything a traditional resume has, but with so many added benefits everyone would be fall in love with it. In the future, I wish I could use the e-resume for applying a job position.
This week, I have been completed the module 2, 3 and 4 in the MOOC(open learning website). I am quite familiar with the open learning website and I really impress by how it works. Basically, MOOC is a great platform for anyone to create, teach or enroll in a course. It is flexible, because learning could be happened at anytime and anywhere. This gave me freedom to learn and also encourage me take responsibility for my own learning. In the future, I'll definitely create an interesting course for the Malaysian student who have always struggled to study English language. For example, I"ll using video to explain how English language function in different context. Video helps to generate student's thinking and also enhance their listening experience.
For this week, I have learnt some tips to build a better and professional looking WEEBLY. FreecounterStat and Padlet are the examples of additional elements that I can literally drag them into my website. In my point of view, Padlet is one of the easiest way for teacher to create a collaborative classroom. In the future, I'll use Padlet as a platform for my students to share their work without taking the instructional time to share one at a time in front of the class. Other than posting their work, they can also have other classmates view the posted items, respond, and comment. By creating a collaborative classroom, it helps to promotes student-interaction, increases student retention, and enhances student satisfaction with the learning experience.
On the other hand, I have learnt how to link, embed, upload youtube videos, documents and files (download purpose) into the Weebly website. The following are the evidence of what I have done:
2)Embedding a Padlet page
3)Upload a document+ download file
-Weebly Step by Step Instructions
